The Challenge is a thrilling story of an American drifter drawn into a private war between two brothers - a war that has raged for decades and has it roots six centuries in the past. The plot focuses on a treacherous son, Hideo who orders the death of his old warrior father. He steals two magical family swords destined by custom for his older brother, losing one of the swords during the closing days of World War II. Thirty-five years later, a third-rate backroom brawler, Ricky Murphy becomes involved when the lost sword is found in California and he returns to Japan. There, the magic of the swords draws Rick into a terrifying encounter. The traditions of 13th Century feudal Japan clash with the technology of modern-day Kyoto and the result is a pitched battle between Samurai and armed guards.
